Disparity Collective, Positions of Power, and Liverpool Independents Biennial

9th July 2018

In a few days time, I’ll be attending not one, but two exhibitions showcasing my work. The first is Positions of Power at Constellations in Liverpool, the second is an extended version of the same show, this time at George Henry Lee’s Building in the centre of Liverpool.

If you’d have told me a year ago that I’d be showing work in public, I wouldn’t have believed you, but in the last 12 months a LOT has happened.

Let me give you some background.

Around a year ago, I applied to be on Redeye’s ‘Lightbox’ programme. The programme is a 12 month professional and personal development course, designed to help photographers with their artistic work, as well as help with interpersonal skills, practical advice, and teambuilding.

I was successful in my application (obviously, otherwise why would I be telling you about it), and soon met some amazing people, and was placed in a collective, called ‘Disparity’.

This July marks the beginning of the end of the course, with two of three collectives presenting solo shows in Liverpool for Liverpool Independents Biennial.

A little about my work.

I named it ‘Power’, and it’s a collaboration between myself and Principal Ballerina Bethany Kingsley Garner.

The work is a response to the phrase ‘Positions of Power’, and in Constellations is one piece presented as a triptych, and in GHL is presented as heptaptych.

Here's a link to the project right here:

“For me, ballet is about passion, dedication, fear, and triumph. What is designed to look graceful and effortless is born out of the fire of merciless training, gruelling self belief, and love in its most pure form.

They are entertainers.

They are athletes.

They are heroes.”

The shows were on display twice in 2018, the details are shown below:
